Replacing a Rubber Grommet Plug

Rubber Grommets1 min readExplore product profiles

When replacing a rubber grommet plug, identify why the original part needs replacement as well as its dimensions. Cracking, swelling, deformation or repeated displacement can indicate that the fit or material needs review.

Measure the panel, not just the old part

A used plug may have changed shape. Record the panel opening, panel thickness and available clearance, then compare them with the original drawing or replacement specification. Confirm whether the opening needs a solid closure or a cable passage.

Review the environment

Identify temperatures, fluids, cleaners and outdoor exposure. A material that fits the opening can still be unsuitable for the service conditions. Any water, gas or pressure-sealing requirement needs appropriate evidence for the replacement and assembly.

Install the approved profile according to its instructions, then inspect retention and the required seal. Do not assume that the nearest nominal size is an acceptable substitute.
