Types of Rubber Grommets and Their Uses

Rubber Grommets1 min readExplore product profiles

Different rubber grommet profiles serve different functions. Choose the required function first, then verify dimensions, compound and installation requirements.

Common profile distinctions

  • Open grommets provide a passage for a cable or tube while covering the panel edge.
  • Closed grommets or plugs cover unused openings.
  • Shaped grommets fit corresponding noncircular cutouts.
  • Grommet edging lines suitable panel edges and contours.

A thick profile or colored compound does not automatically add sealing, strain relief or a certified performance rating. Those requirements must be specified and supported for the selected part.

Custom requirements

If a unique profile is needed, provide a customer drawing or existing sample. We review manufacturability and quotation requirements, including tooling, sampling and production. Confirm any required tests and documentation before proceeding.
