Rubber grommets used in food-contact applications need to be assessed for the intended food, temperature, contact time and cleaning conditions. A generic food-grade description is not enough to establish suitability for every use.
Check the scope of the documentation
Specify the applicable requirements and identify the proposed compound or part. Confirm that additives, color and any processing limitations are covered. A statement about the base polymer alone may not describe the finished product.
Confirm the assembly
For a fermentation lid, beverage container or processing component, check the opening dimensions and mating tube or airlock. Sealing performance and repeated-use suitability must be evaluated for the actual arrangement.
Discuss the food-contact requirements and intended conditions of use for the proposed part. For custom manufacturing, provide a drawing or sample and agree the specification before tooling, sampling and production.
