Clear or translucent elastomer grommets provide edge protection while offering a different appearance from opaque parts. They may be useful where visibility or a particular finish is required, but transparency does not establish material performance.
Specify the material and appearance
Confirm the compound, color and acceptable level of transparency with a sample or agreed specification. A clear silicone part and another clear elastomer may have different tear strength, temperature limits and fluid compatibility.
Check the assembly
Match the panel hole, panel thickness and cable dimensions to the part drawing. An open grommet helps protect the cable jacket; it should not be treated as a cord clamp unless it is specifically rated for that function.
For automotive or equipment applications, review vibration, heat and chemical exposure. Request the relevant material data rather than assuming that all clear grommets share the same weathering or abrasion resistance.
