A cord grommet lines the opening through which a cable passes. Its main role is to help protect the cable jacket from rubbing against the panel edge. The correct part must fit both the panel and the cable arrangement.
Edge protection versus strain relief
A conventional open grommet does not necessarily resist cable pulling or twisting. Where those loads need to be controlled, specify a suitable strain-relief component and its retention requirements. Do not assume that a grommet prevents short circuits or makes damaged wiring safe.
Before ordering
Record the panel-hole diameter, panel thickness, cable outside diameter and connector clearance. Check the compound's temperature and fluid compatibility. After installation, verify that the groove is seated and that cable movement cannot dislodge the grommet or expose the sharp edge.
