An electrical cord grommet provides a protective surface where a cable passes through a panel. It helps reduce abrasion of the cable jacket at the opening. It does not replace the cable's insulation, a required strain-relief device or electrical safety measures.
Check the fit first
Select the specified mounting-hole diameter, panel-thickness range and cable range. The flange outside diameter is a separate dimension and normally overlaps the panel opening. Do not boil or otherwise heat a grommet to compensate for an incorrect size.
Installing a push-in panel grommet
- Prepare and deburr the opening to the part drawing.
- Seat the retaining groove around the panel edge without cutting or overstretching the rubber.
- Route the cable according to the part's installation instructions and check that its jacket is undamaged.
- Confirm that the grommet remains seated and that the cable has the required support.
Do not add an improvised glued casing or hammer the grommet into place. If it will not seat correctly, recheck the dimensions and part selection.
