Electrical rubber grommets help protect cable insulation from abrasion where wires pass through a panel. The grommet covers the edge of the opening and separates it from the cable jacket.
What protection means
A correctly fitted grommet can reduce contact with a sharp edge, but it cannot guarantee electrical safety or prevent every short circuit. It does not make furniture shockproof. Cable insulation, routing, support and any required strain relief remain separate requirements.
Selecting a part
Check the mounting-hole dimensions, panel thickness and cable diameter. Then confirm the compound's suitability for the operating temperature and exposure to fluids or weather. Electrical insulation and flame-performance requirements need supporting data for the selected material.
Inspect the installed grommet for damage and secure seating. Replace parts that are cracked, displaced or no longer provide the required edge coverage.
