How to Read Rubber Grommet Dimensions

Rubber Grommets1 min readExplore product profiles

A grommet drawing is useful only when each dimension is matched to the correct feature. Start by distinguishing the cable opening from the panel cutout.

Reading the drawing

The inside diameter, or bore, describes the opening through the grommet. The mounting-hole dimension identifies the panel cutout. The flange outside diameter covers the edge and is not a substitute for the mounting-hole specification.

The groove width relates to the specified panel-thickness range. Overall thickness describes the complete part depth and helps establish clearance around the assembly. Check units, tolerances and any notes that qualify the dimensions.

Beyond the drawing

Material, hardness and operating conditions must also be confirmed. A correct dimensional fit does not establish fluid compatibility or a sealing rating. If a dimension is unclear, request clarification before ordering.
