Rubber grommets can deform under load and recover when the load is removed. The extent of recovery depends on the compound, temperature, loading rate and time under deformation.
Elongation at break is a test result, not an allowable installation stretch or a guarantee of fully reversible deformation. Hardness, tensile properties and compression set describe different aspects of behavior and should not be used interchangeably.
For a cable opening, choose the specified bore, mounting hole and panel-thickness range. Do not stretch a grommet to compensate for an incorrect size. For a load-bearing or sealing application, define the working deformation and acceptance criteria, then evaluate the selected part under the intended conditions.
