Silicone Rubber Grommets: Material and Fit

Rubber Grommets1 min readExplore product profiles

Silicone rubber is an elastomer used in suitable grommet and sealing applications. Silicone is the correct material term here; silicon refers to the chemical element and is not the name of the rubber.

Evaluate the compound

Request the operating-temperature limits and relevant mechanical data for the selected grade. Clarify exposure duration and any fluid contact. Silicone compounds differ, and a high temperature capability does not guarantee tear resistance, chemical compatibility or a particular service life.

Evaluate the part

Match the mounting-hole dimensions, panel thickness and cable or tube range. Check retention, flange clearance and the installation method. Any pressure or liquid seal must be established for the intended geometry and assembly.

For custom manufacturing, provide a drawing or existing sample with material requirements and quantity. Confirm the proposed sample against the agreed fit and performance criteria before production.
