Identify the installation location
A passenger-compartment passage, an engine-compartment opening and a partition panel can have different requirements. State the conditions at the actual part.
Passenger-compartment passages
Provide the panel cutout, harness envelope, installation access and appearance requirements. Include any movement, abrasion or retention checks required by your assembly specification.
Engine-compartment exposure
List continuous and peak temperatures, exposure duration, contacting oils, fuels, coolants and cleaners. Specify vibration and movement conditions for material and geometry review.
Firewall or partition openings
Identify each side of the panel and the required cable routing. If fire, heat, smoke or sealing performance is required, submit the applicable test conditions and acceptance criteria; the location name does not establish those properties.
Match the grommet to the harness assembly
The harness layout and installation sequence should be shown with the grommet drawing.
Cable and connector geometry
State the cable outside diameters or bundle envelope, branch directions and connector dimensions. Explain whether the grommet is installed before termination or must accommodate an existing connector.
Panel fit and orientation
