Tapered Rubber Grommets: Matching the Profile

Rubber Grommets1 min readExplore product profiles

A tapered rubber grommet or plug must match the opening and intended interface. The taper is a geometric feature, not proof that it seals better than every other profile.

Check the diameter range, insertion depth, retaining features and wall thickness. A thick wall or multilayer panel may require a purpose-designed passage or closure. Do not assume a taper will compensate for an unsuitable opening.

Specify the material, temperature and any fluid or pressure exposure. Verify retention and sealing in the assembly. For custom manufacture, provide a drawing or existing sample and agree on the technical and inspection requirements.
