Static Electricity and Rubber Grommet Selection

Rubber Grommets1 min readExplore product profiles

A rubber compound can accumulate charge under some handling and service conditions. The electrical behavior depends on formulation and environment, so the material name alone does not determine whether a grommet is insulating or dissipative.

If static control is required, define the electrical resistance and test conditions for the part and assembly. Humidity, surface contamination, wear and contact geometry can affect performance and should be considered where relevant.

Use a documented compound and a suitable system-level static-control arrangement. Do not improvise chemical surface treatments or assume that an additive eliminates every static hazard. Requirements for electrical insulation and static dissipation are different and should be reviewed before substituting one material for another.
