An electrical rubber grommet helps protect intact cable insulation at a panel opening. It is not a general barrier between electrical devices or a substitute for required insulation and grounding.
Rubber formulations differ in electrical properties, and any required insulation rating must be supported by appropriate data. Do not assume a material cannot be damaged by electrical exposure because it is rubber.
Check the mounting hole, panel thickness, cable passage and retaining profile. Specify sealing or strain relief separately where required. Select the compound for the operating environment and verify the part against the equipment's requirements.
Define each protection requirement
Record where the cable crosses the panel, how the cable is supported and which component carries any pull load. A grommet covering the cut edge does not by itself demonstrate that the cable is restrained. Check the complete cable-entry arrangement against the equipment specification.
Document the acceptance checks
Specify the panel fit and cable clearance separately from any required electrical or flame performance. Confirm the selected compound and the relevant test conditions for the finished part. A successful fit check alone cannot establish those additional properties.
