Hard drive rubber grommets may be part of a specified drive-mounting system. Whether they are needed depends on the drive, enclosure and intended operating conditions.
Follow the manufacturers' mounting instructions, including hardware, screw engagement, clearance and thermal requirements. Softer rubber is not automatically better; stiffness must suit the supported load and vibration conditions.
Select replacement mounts by the approved part specification rather than a general preference for silicone or another material. Do not add arbitrary grommets to a drive assembly. Verify the completed mounting arrangement and keep cable edge protection separate from drive isolation.
