Rubber electrical grommets are used to conduct electrical wires through holes in different types of surfaces. In addition, these items protect cords from wear and tear. The truth is that oftentimes it doesn’t matter how careful you are when handling cables and cords because they will get damaged after some time. This is when rubber electrical grommets come in. They don’t only enable you to organize and secure wires, but they also act as a form of insulation that protects them from cold, heat, water, dust, UV rays, and so on.
How does this work? Well, the secret is in the material these electrical grommets are made of. Yes, we are talking about rubber. Generally speaking, it is a durable, flexible material that prolongs the product’s life and provides it with numerous benefits. However, when it comes to rubber electrical grommets, several types of materials are used in production. Some of these include natural rubber, Buna-N, Neoprene, FKM, and Silicone.
Now, obviously, the difference between these is in the chemicals used in manufacturing. For example, if the grommet will be in contact with oil, Buna-N ones are the best choice due to the oil resistance and antistatic features. On the other hand, if you want to install this item outside, you need to go with something that is weather-resistant. In this case, you should go with Neoprene ones. Their tear strength is very good, and they are also resistant to sunlight and heat, meaning that they will serve the purpose for quite some time. Finally, if you need a grommet that will be exposed to chemicals and in an acid and alkali environment, FKM ones are the way to go. On the contrary, if you need something that is safe to use in your kitchen, for example, or near the food, the Silicone ones are your only option.
