Pipe Grommet

Pipe Grommet

As anyone who’s ever had to work in an office or server will tell you, it’s an absolute nightmare to have cables running everywhere. This is why proper cable management is necessary and usually this involves running cables through walls, floors or desks. The simplest solution is to just drill a hole through the surface to route the cable through. However, many of these cables can easily be damaged of the constant friction on the rough edges of the hole. Fortunately, this is where pipe grommets come in to save the day.

Of course, there are a lot of other uses for eyelets or pipe grommets as they were not originally created for cable management. You can find these same types of grommets be used in both industrial and home piping to reduce the possibility of leaks. These little things are even used in electronics as they can considerably reduce vibrations. This is especially important for hard disk drives as even the slightest vibration could ruin the drive and cause loss of data. Since pipe grommets can be made out of a number of materials such as rubber, plastic or metal, there are plenty of other uses for them.

However, as mentioned previously, these are most widely used for electronics. They are exceptional at protection cables from wearing and tearing when catching on rough or sharp edges. We also have to consider that the same pipe grommets that protect the cables provide waterproof and dustproof properties.
