It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that grommets play a very significant and important part in our lives. Grommets are immensely important components that are used in a variety of appliances, industrial equipment, and machines, in your houses, and even in the automobile industry. Being part of so many industrial and manufacturing sectors, grommets actually have a very singular and limited purpose – although that purpose is what keeps most of our machines running.
Grommets are assigned the job of protecting wires and cables attached to important equipment, machines, and appliances by providing them with a cover from the scrubby surface of walls and the sharp edges of metal sheets. If not for grommets, the risk of the wires getting cut, scratched repeatedly, and damaged increases substantially and that’s why grommets serve a very important job.
However, grommets too have their own types and one very important type among these is the industrial rubber grommets. Industrial rubber grommets are specially designed from industrial rubber so they have more strength, additional properties, and more features to access. The two major types of industrial rubber used for industrial rubber grommets are EPDM and FKM. EPDM is short for Ethylene Propylene and FKM is short for Fluorocarbon and both of these have their own special properties.
Industrial rubber grommets made from FKM can be easily used in scientific labs because they have a very high resistance to acids and acidic substances. They also function particularly well in extremely hot environments which are common occurrences in the insides of many manufacturing machines. Similarly, industrial rubber grommets made from EPDM are used in equipment or areas that are constantly exposed to water because of their waterproofing properties and also in standard equipment where grommets need to be resilient and flexible. Industrial rubber grommets are also used in houses if they have a major need for them.
