Grommet selection involves two separate choices: the profile that fits the assembly and the compound that suits the operating conditions. A type name or letter code does not specify both.
Profile options
An open grommet allows a cable or tube to pass through a panel. A closed plug covers an unused opening. Shaped profiles suit corresponding cutouts, while flexible edging can cover suitable panel contours. Check the drawing for any catalogue type designation.
Material requirements
Specify temperature, fluids, mechanical loading and outdoor exposure. Use data for the actual compound. FKM does not have one universal temperature limit, and silicone is not automatically suitable for food contact.
Confirm the dimensions, installation method and required documentation before ordering. For a nonstandard profile, submit a drawing or existing sample for manufacturability review, quotation and sampling.
