Whether you are trying to route them through wood or metal the wires can be damaged really easily. That will not happen fast but it will happen eventually so you will need to carry the burden of buying new cables occasionally. Other than the cable itself, that can damage your components as well either tv or computer parts and that is not cheap at all.
