Pigments provide color through particles dispersed in a rubber compound. Selecting a pigment involves more than matching a shade: the colorant must suit the polymer, cure process and intended service.
Organic and inorganic pigments include many different chemistries. Their light stability, hiding power, heat resistance and migration behavior should be evaluated for the specific grade rather than assumed from the category alone.
Use an agreed color reference and inspect molded samples for dispersion, streaks and consistency. Confirm that the pigment and any carrier are compatible with the compound and applicable contact requirements. Changes in pigment or concentration should be reviewed for their effect on both appearance and functional properties.
